Acetarc Engineering was started in the mid 1960's by two brothers, Ken and Peter. In 1967 it became a limited company and continues to be run as a family business to this day.

The name Acetarc is derived from Oxy-acetylene and arc welding and was chosen because at the time, Acetarc Engineering were one of the first engineering companies in the keighley area to offer both machining, welding and fabrication services combined within a single company.

Originally Acetarc Engineering was a small jobbing shop providing a range of engineering services to local industry. At the time these included many textile mills and several well known foundry engineering companies located in keighley.

Through dedicated service to its customers Acetarc outgrew its original premises and had to acquire larger facilities. Whilst working from these larger premises Acetarc purchased the manufacturing rights to H. Beck & Son Ltd., foundry equipment engineers. Acetarc developed and improved these products, particularly the ladles and began to sell to end users in the U.K. Previously equipment had mainly been sold through other companies and dealers in similar fields carrying out badge engineering.

In 1977 Acetarc took a small stand at the foundry exhibition, the first to be held at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham. Following the success of this exhibition Acetarc was able to extend its customer base and acquire some additional overseas agents. This resulted in Acetarc having to relocate again, to where we are now on a 20000 Sq foot site in Keighley in the North of England. This site includes all the facilities of the business, main office, design office, operating with industry standard CAD drawing facilities and a full workshop capability.

In 1991 Acetarc acquired the assets of Fulworth Engineering Ltd., a very well known firm of foundry engineers, particularly noted for their trade in used foundry equipment and plant. Over the years Acetarc built up its export trade to the extent that it now accounts for 70% of the work load.

In addition to foundry equipment Acetarc has diversified into other industries and now provides engineering services to water utility companies. These include the repair and renewal of existing plant and equipment and also design and manufacture of new equipment.

Several years ago Acetarc acquired Carroll Brothers Ltd., precision engineers and moved into the field of Heritage Engineering carrying out work for various steam locomotive societies.

The original founders are still involved with the company but not on a day to day basis. This is now looked after by the second generation of the family.
